Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini – most people have their favorite AI tool these days.
When I mention Microsoft Copilot, I often hear the same thing:
“I tried it a while ago and wasn’t impressed.”
Honestly, I understand. Early versions of Copilot didn’t impress.
But Copilot has improved dramatically. If your business runs on Microsoft 365, I believe it should be the first AI tool you pay for due to how it integrates directly with the tools your team already uses every day.
Recently, I discovered a perfect example to help illustrate: I realized I could draft and send emails directly from Copilot Premium without ever opening Outlook.
Not the Free Version
Before we continue, it’s important to clarify that this is a Microsoft 365 Copilot Premium feature. The free version of Copilot doesn’t provide the same level of integration with Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and the rest of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
And that’s really the value proposition of Copilot Premium.
The Old Way
Most people use AI for email the same way:
- Ask AI to draft the email.
- Copy the text.
- Open Outlook.
- Paste the draft.
- Add recipients.
- Make tweaks.
- Send.
Not terrible, but just watch all the steps Copilot eliminates.
The Copilot Premium Way
Imagine you’re already using Copilot to summarize a meeting, analyze a document or gather information for a project.
Instead of copying an email draft into Outlook, Copilot can prepare the message and let you send it directly from within the conversation.
Review the draft.
Make any changes.
Confirm the recipients.
Send.
It sounds like a small feature, but that’s exactly why I like it. It removes friction from something many of us do dozens of times every week.

Why This Matters
When people ask me where AI creates the most business value, they’re usually expecting something revolutionary.
The reality is often much simpler.
AI delivers value when it saves time, eliminates repetitive steps and keeps people focused on their work.
Sending an email directly from Copilot Premium won’t change your business overnight.
But neither will saving a minute here or two minutes there.
Stack enough of those improvements together and suddenly your team is getting a lot more done with less effort.
Final Thoughts
Businesses have more AI choices today than ever before, and that’s a good thing.
But if your organization already runs on Microsoft 365, Copilot Premium deserves a serious look because of how deeply it integrates with the tools you’re already using.
Being able to send emails directly from Copilot is just one example. It’s a simple feature, but it’s a great illustration of where business AI is headed: fewer clicks, less context switching and more time spent actually getting work done.
