Those who know us understand that KaufmanIT provides managed IT and cybersecurity services for small and mid-sized businesses, generally those with up to 200 employees. When companies grow beyond that number, they usually hire their own in-house IT department.
But lately we’ve realized that our willingness to say yes to clients of any size – even just one person breaking out to start a new company – makes us truly unique.
Shunned by Competitors
In our world, there are a lot of 1-person IT shops out there. Even though we’re “only” a 20-person company ourselves, that actually makes us a pretty sizable IT provider, one that’s able to serve hundreds of clients, most of them in California.
Of the few IT competitors who reach our size, most narrow their focus to larger clients only. They set minimum employee counts or monthly spending requirements that are meant to shut out smaller organizations they see as not being worth the effort.
We think that’s a shame. Those small businesses are then stuck to either go it alone or to settle for the one-person IT shop that, despite best efforts, cannot possibly provide the service nor the full range of expertise of a firm like ours.
Because they’re often overlooked by our competitors, most small businesses don’t understand how inexpensive IT support like ours can be. Indeed, this is precisely why most of our competitors won’t serve small employers.
To us, however, it’s worth it. Who knows which startup will become tomorrow’s huge success? Plus, any happy client is a potential referral source. That’s how we see things, anyway: it’s simply not about the monthly spend.
No Business Too Small
Don’t get me wrong, we also say yes to prospective clients with 50, 100 or 150 employees.
It’s just that at KaufmanIT, we don’t believe in minimums — it’s not in our DNA. If your business is serious about IT infrastructure and cybersecurity, we want to work with you. But any company that wants to take a thoughtful, proactive approach to protecting its data is big enough for us. Serving small companies is how I started building this business nearly 15 years ago and the more we grow, the more unique our willingness to serve any number of employees becomes.
